Tropical Storm Emily on Possible Florida Track


The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storm Emily in the Atlantic Ocean as it makes its way towards the Southern Coast of the United States.

Senate Bill 408 Signed into Law by Gov. Scott

Senate Bill 408, which dramatically overhauls Florida's property insurance market was signed into law this week by Governor Rick Scott. Senate Bill 408 takes effect July 1, 2011. The provisions of this law drastically alter the rights of Florida's homeowners and business owners with respect to their property insurance policies.

Busy 2011 Hurricane Season Predicted


The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) has released their predictions for the 2011 hurricane season and the season is expected to be busy. Now is the time to check with your insurance agent to make sure your coverages are up to date before a storm strikes.

Across the entire Atlantic Basin for the six-month season, which begins June 1, NOAA is predicting the following ranges this year:

12 to 18 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which:

6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including:

3 to 6 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher)

BP Oil Claims Responsibility for Oil Spill in Gulf of Mexico


Gulf Coast property owners, shrimpers, and commercial fisherman have filed at least 26 federal lawsuits including several class actions seeking punitive and compensatory damages against BP PLC, Transocean Ltd., and others over the growing devastation caused by the April 20th explosion of an oil rig off the Louisiana coast, according to an Associated Press report. It is expected that in the coming weeks, the coastline and waters off the shores of Florida will be impacted by the spill.
